AIA New Zealand has appointed Luke Longney as Chief Technology Officer following an executive search conducted by SEQEL Partners.

AIA is one of the world’s largest life insurance companies by market capitalisation with a presence in 18 markets across the Asia Pacific region. The brand has been operating in New Zealand since 1981 and is now the country’s largest life insurer offering life, health, trauma and income insurance.

Luke is an experienced technology leader with a background in the telecommunications and insurance sectors spanning New Zealand and the Middle East. Luke joined AIA in 2021 as Head of Technology – Digital Channels where he optimised the company’s front end and integration technology platforms. He then took on the Head of Technology Experience mandate which focused on building AIA’s first direct to customer digital sales channel whilst also delivering new features within the self-service portal and modernising core applications.

He spent his earlier career at Vodafone in New Zealand and Qatar where he progressed through a range of increasingly senior mandates spanning digital, IT and marketing culminating in his final role as Tribe Lead Service Improvement & Design in Auckland. There, Luke led initiatives focused on the adoption of low-cost service channels, process automation and continuous improvement.

Luke holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and an MBA, both from the University of Auckland. He was internally promoted to Chief Technology Officer in August following a robust internal and external search process.
