Bioeconomy Science Institute has appointed Angus Haslett as Chief Executive Officer following an international executive search conducted by SEQEL Partners.

The Bioeconomy Science Institute (BSI) brings together New Zealand’s four leading bioeconomy Crown Research Institutes - AgResearch, Landcare Research, Plant & Food Research, and Scion, into a single organisation. Spanning 2,300 people across New Zealand and globally, the world-class science at BSI advances innovation in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, aquaculture, biotechnology and manufacturing; protects and enhances ecosystems from biosecurity threats and climate risks; and develops new bio-based technologies and products.

Angus has over 30 years’ experience in agribusiness, most recently as Chief Executive Officer and Chair of the Executive Board of global dairy genetics company CRV, based in the Netherlands. CRV has a turnover of circa NZ$365 million, employs 2,300 people and has operations in 63 countries. Over the last five years as CEO, Angus rebuilt CRV’s global network and returned the co-operative of 22,000 shareholders to a position of international strength, credibility, and positive commercial performance.

Prior to this, Angus was Managing Director of CRV for Oceania, CRV USA and Engender Technologies over an eleven year period. Earlier in his career he spent circa 10 years in the highly competitive and commercially orientated packaging industry in sales, marketing and strategy mandates within Carter Holt Harvey Packaging and Amcor Flexibles.

Angus holds a Bachelor of Agriculture in Production & Management from Massey University. He will return to New Zealand to commence with BSI in August 2026.
