Chorus has appointed Neal Barclay as a Non Executive Director following a Director search process undertaken by SEQEL Partners. 

Neal is currently Chief Executive of Meridian Energy, one of the largest listed entities on the NZX and 51% owned by the NZ Government. Meridian is New Zealand’s largest electricity retailer and generator and produces around 30% of the country’s electricity.  Neal joined Meridian in 2008 as Chief Financial Officer and subsequently led the Wholesale and Generation Group, and then the Retail Group. 

Prior to this Neal spent 13 years with Telecom progressing through a variety of senior finance leadership roles, working across most parts of the business. He commenced his career with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) and spent seven years in the Audit Group, including a couple of years in the London Office.

Neal holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University of Wellington. He was made a Fellow of CAANZ in 2023.
