Southern Cross Healthcare has appointed Monica Goldwater as Chief Nursing Officer following a global executive search conducted by SEQEL Partners.

As New Zealand’s only national network of private hospitals and with a range of joint venture wellbeing partners, Southern Cross Healthcare is well positioned to revolutionise the private health sector and provide outstanding patient experiences and outcomes. To help deliver their strategic aspirations, Monica will be joining the Executive Leadership Team.

Over her extensive nursing career, Monica has worked in both public and private, inpatient and outpatient healthcare settings across the US and New Zealand. With extensive experience gathered across a range of roles including Director of Nursing, Clinical Director and Director of Perioperative and Cardiovascular Services for large complex and multi-site healthcare organisations.

Monica is a strong and active advocate for both nurses (career and professional development) and the delivery of world class nursing services. Her most recent role, Director of Perioperative Services for the University of Vermont Medical Centre in the US, is a single facility with the same bed capacity and annual revenue as the Southern Cross wholly owned hospital network. Earlier in her career Monica worked as a theatre nurse at Royston Hospital in the Hawkes Bay.

Monica is a registered nurse in both the US and NZ and holds an MBA from Massey University. She will be moving back from the US and is expected to commence with Southern Cross Healthcare on 1 May 2023.
