Southern Cross Travel Insurance appoints Greg Sparling as Chief Risk & Legal Officer

Southern Cross Travel Insurance has appointed Greg Sparling as Chief Risk & Legal Officer following an executive search conducted by SEQEL Partners.

Established in 1982, Southern Cross Travel Insurance is a leading New Zealand owned trans-Tasman travel insurance provider and a subsidiary of Southern Cross Health Insurance.

Greg is an experienced corporate and financial services lawyer with broader skills in governance, risk, compliance and regulatory engagement across New Zealand and the UK. Most recently, Greg held dual roles of Head of NZ Governance Risk & Legal for Resolution Life Australasia and Chief Risk Officer for Resolution Life NZ where he was responsible for providing legal, risk, compliance, regulatory engagement, external dispute resolution and governance support to all areas of the Australasian business, with a focus on NZ operations.

Greg’s early career was spent as a Solicitor and Legal Counsel with companies including Bexley Council and Brewin Dolphin in London. Upon returning to New Zealand, he joined ANZ Bank as Corporate Counsel for the Global Wealth NZ business, before progressing to Associate GC & Company Secretary for the division. Greg later moved across to Cigna with the acquisition of ANZ’s OnePath Life business, where he held the role of Chief Risk Officer & Company Secretary for two years.

Greg holds a Bachelor of Law in English Literature from the University of Auckland. He commenced with Southern Cross Travel Insurance on Monday 12th February.
